I’ve hooked it up to my dc power supply and I can hear it turn on and it releases amps when I switch it on (no amps when not on so no major short) but the screen stays black. Also I used a software program to ‘flash’ it and that was completed successfully so I presume that means the logic board is fine....

Chosen Solution I’m not looking to touch the PCIe SSD my system has. I want to know if I can just upgrade the HDD portion to an SSD instead of using the slower 7200 rpm HDD. If so, will it be possible to “fuse” the stock PCIe SSD and new SSD or will there basically be just two SSD’s seen in the OS? In the past the answer would be no as Sierra and older OS’s leveraged the device type to set the way Apples ‘Fusion Drive’ worked....

Update (02/03/2020) Already change the capasitor.. To attempt a spontaneous reboot, dis connect the mag-safe and battery. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery then connect the mag-safe adapter. If your logic board is good it should reboot on its own....

Chosen Solution Have 2 Gen3’s that are used only for docking/playback on 2 different home stereo’s. About once per month they were synchronized to iTunes library on a Windows XP CPU. Just bought an iMac (3 weeks old), moved iTunes to it. Gen3 iPods won’t synch. Chosen Solution I have removed and tested a screen to see if it was a faulty screen or something more. The screen worked and the phone turned on. So I powered the device off disconnected everything and placed a new screen on. However this time around it did not turn on and there were some nasty fumes but no smoke.
