MacBook Pro 2012 13" non-retina. OS sierra (newest version) When studio monitors are hooked up via USB the audio go’s staticky and cuts in and out. Then it will be ok for a minute then same thing over again. I tested the speakers on another computer and they work fine. It’s only with my MacBook Pro I also tried a different USB port and same problem.
Do you have anything else hooked up via USB? external HD etc… You may need to use an external power source for your DAC unit. Update (02/12/2017) What happens when you disconnect the other connections? Does the problem go away? If it does it maybe the unit is pulling too much power in addition to your DAC unit.
